South Dakota Medical Record Retention Law:

- * Must retain medical records for a minimum of ten years from the actual visit date of service or resident care. The retention of the record for ten years is not affected by additional and future visit dates.
- * Records of minors shall be retained until the minor reaches the age of majority plus an additional two years, but no less than ten years from the actual visit date of service or resident care.

Each Additional Page: $0.33 per page
Electronic Copies of Medical Records:
Per Page: $0.25 per page
Printed Copies of Medical Imaging (e.g., X-rays, MRIs):
Maximum Fee: $10 per image
Digital Copies of Medical Imaging (on CD, DVD, etc.):
Maximum Fee: $15 per disc
Additional Charges:
Postage/Shipping: Can be added to cover mailing costs
