  • Keep patient records for at least seven years following the discharge of the patient.
  • Records of a patient under 19 years of age shall be kept until at least two years after the patient has reached the age of 19 years or until seven years following the discharge of the patient, whichever is longer.
  • Records consisting of X-ray film are required to be retained for five years.

Alaska Statutes § 18.23.005 specifies that “a patient is entitled to inspect and copy any records developed or maintained by a health care provider or other person pertaining to the health care rendered to the patient,” no state law limits the costs of providing copies of medical records.
