Georgia Medical Record Retention Law:

- * Keep all medical records for adults over 18 years old for 10 years from the date they were last seen by provider.
- * Keep all medical records 10 years after the client turns 18 (age of majority in Georgia) or 28 years from the date of the last service, whichever is longer.

Search and Retrieval:
Up to $20 can be charged for searching, retrieving, and administrative costs.
Certification Fee:
A fee of up to $7.50 may be charged for certifying each record.
Copying Costs:
75¢ per page for the first 20 pages.
65¢ per page for pages 21-100.
50¢ per page for each page over 100.
Postage:
The actual cost of postage may be charged.
Non-Paper Records:
For records like radiology films or fetal monitoring strips, providers can charge the full reasonable cost of reproduction.
Annual Adjustment:
Fees are adjusted yearly based on the medical component of the consumer price index, effective July 1 each year.
Disability Benefits Exception:
These costs do not apply if the records are needed to make or complete an application for a disability benefits program.
Patient Rights:
The rights to access medical records under this chapter are additional to any other rights you may have. However, the records themselves are the property of the provider.
Applicability:
This section also applies to psychiatric, psychological, and other mental health records.
