Connecticut — Medical Records Checklist

For a practice that is closing, being sold, relocating or whose physician is retiring. Prepared 21 September 2026.

How long records must be kept

Adult patients
7 years.
Patients who were minors
No separate minors period in this regulation.
Clock starts
The date of the last treatment.
Also
If the patient dies: 3 years.
Also
Pathology slides, EEG and ECG traces: 7 years.
Also
Laboratory and PKU results: at least 5 years (abnormal results only).
Also
X-ray films: 3 years.
